Physical Therapy Assistant (Rehabilitation Therapy)
Location: Lawrence, Massachusetts
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
The Physical Therapy Assistant works with residents and care providers to deliver physical therapy services aimed at maximizing residents' functional abilities and independence.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform therapeutic procedures under the supervision of a licensed therapist following physician orders.
- Treat residents according to department protocols and therapeutic plans of care, including functional goals, frequency, duration, and modalities.
- Incorporate input from residents and caregivers into treatment sessions.
- Communicate any issues or changes in resident status promptly to the evaluating therapist.
- Participate in team meetings relevant to resident care.
- Monitor and progress treatment programs toward established functional goals; modify plans as needed in consultation with the therapist.
- Document all therapeutic interactions timely and ensure accessibility to the care team and residents when appropriate.
- Recommend and instruct on the use of assistive devices.
- Provide education to residents and caregivers, documenting teaching outcomes.
- Comply with Medicare, Medicaid, and other reimbursement regulations.
- Assist in developing new rehabilitation programs and services.
- Maintain cleanliness and infection control in clinical and office areas; assist with equipment and space cleaning.
- Maintain required licenses, certifications, and complete annual compliance courses.
Qualifications
Education & Licensure
- Associate degree required
- Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) license required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
Experience
- Prior experience in long-term care or skilled nursing facility preferred
Skills & Abilities
- Strong verbal, written, and presentation communication skills
- Responsible, supportive team player with strong interpersonal and customer service skills
- Analytical with sound decision-making ability
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team
- Excellent time management and documentation skills
- Compassionate, resident-centered care approach
- Ability to understand and follow written instructions in English
Physical Demands & Working Conditions
- Ability to perform tasks involving sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, twisting, and reaching
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds; lifting over 50 pounds requires two-person assistance
- Frequent lifting/carrying up to 20 pounds
- Position involves a high level of responsibility for quality care
- Must be able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation
