Physical Therapy Assistant (Rehabilitation Therapy)

Job Description

The Physical Therapy Assistant works with residents and care providers to deliver physical therapy services aimed at maximizing residents' functional abilities and independence.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform therapeutic procedures under the supervision of a licensed therapist following physician orders.
• Treat residents according to department protocols and therapeutic plans of care, including functional goals, frequency, duration, and modalities.
• Incorporate input from residents and caregivers into treatment sessions.
• Communicate any issues or changes in resident status promptly to the evaluating therapist.
• Participate in team meetings relevant to resident care.
• Monitor and progress treatment programs toward established functional goals; modify plans as needed in consultation with the therapist.
• Document all therapeutic interactions timely and ensure accessibility to the care team and residents when appropriate.
• Recommend and instruct on the use of assistive devices.
• Provide education to residents and caregivers, documenting teaching outcomes.
• Comply with Medicare, Medicaid, and other reimbursement regulations.
• Assist in developing new rehabilitation programs and services.
• Maintain cleanliness and infection control in clinical and office areas; assist with equipment and space cleaning.
• Maintain required licenses, certifications, and complete annual compliance courses.

Qualifications

Education & Licensure

• Associate degree required
• Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) license required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required

Experience

• Prior experience in long-term care or skilled nursing facility preferred

Physical Demands & Working Conditions

• Ability to perform tasks involving sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, twisting, and reaching
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds; lifting over 50 pounds requires two-person assistance
• Frequent lifting/carrying up to 20 pounds
• Position involves a high level of responsibility for quality care
• Must be able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation
