Description
Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Long Term Care
Location: Seward, Alaska
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 26 weeks (traveler's choice between 13 or 26 weeks)
Start Date: ASAP
Shift: 4x12 hour shifts variable or 3x12 hour shifts variable (traveler's choice)
- Shifts are either days or nights; no required rotation between day and night shifts except for urgent staffing needs.
Patient Ratio: 1:20
Years of Experience Required: Minimum 1 year in specialty (Long Term Care)
Prior Travel Experience: Required (previous travel experience mandatory)
First Timers: Not accepted
Locals: Not accepted (candidate’s permanent address must be at least 50 miles from facility)
On-call: Not required
Floating: May be required to float within scope to meet facility needs
Block Schedule: Not accommodated
Guaranteed Hours: 60 hours per 2 weeks (may be called off for 1 shift per 2 weeks)
Holiday Work: Must be willing to work at least 2 of the 3 major winter holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's); preference for willingness to work any holidays
Time Off Restrictions: No more than 2 weeks of requested time off for 26-week contract; all time off requests must be submitted with application and prior to offer/contract signing
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Alaska
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in Long Term Care (LTC), with LTC experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience working in a Long Term Care setting

Vehicle Information
- Facility provides a vehicle for use during assignment (either facility-owned or rental)
- Vehicle available 72 hours before contract start and must be returned within 24 hours after contract end
- Only the traveler may operate the vehicle
- Traveler must provide valid driver’s license and proof of insurance (including rental car coverage)
- Vehicle use limited to within 30-mile radius around facility, no off-road use
- Vehicle must be returned clean and with a full tank of gas
- Tire chains available at traveler’s expense
- Vehicle must be turned in during any time off and reissued upon return
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO
- Immunizations and health screenings including:
- TB test or chest X-ray (annual)
- Flu vaccine or declination (seasonal)
- COVID vaccine or declination
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination (Alaska placements require both positive titer and vaccine series)
- 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (instant tests not accepted)
- Respirator clearance (RespSafety) required annually for travel candidates
- Background check within 45 days of start covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years, including SSN trace, sex offender registry, education verification, and others as applicable
- Minimum of 2 professional references covering 1 year of employment in comparable specialty/setting within last 3 years (supervisor references required)
- Employment application covering at least last 5 years (7 years for APN/subcontractors) with month/year format for dates worked
- Skills checklist updated annually as applicable
Training and Modules
- Completion of facility and specialty-specific WorkRamp modules prior to start, including:
- Annual regulatory requirements
- Specialty-specific modules for LTC and travel staff
- Basics of Trauma Informed Care (required at this facility)
- Epic training modules may be required depending on assignment
- Other compliance and competency exams as applicable
Additional Notes
- Candidates must be willing to float to other nearby facilities if needed
- No pending licenses accepted; must have active Alaska RN license before start
- No local candidates accepted (must live 50+ miles away)
- Prior travel experience is mandatory; first-time travelers will not be considered
- Time off requests limited and must be submitted early
- Holiday work is required for major winter holidays
This position is ideal for experienced LTC Registered Nurses who have prior travel experience, hold an active Alaska RN license, and are flexible with shift and holiday work requirements.
