Registered Nurse - Surgery/OR

Location: Bethel, Alaska
Employment Type: Contract

Job Summary

• Deliver patient care through the nursing process: assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
• Direct and coordinate nursing care based on nursing practice standards.
• Collaborate with healthcare professionals to provide quality, cost-effective, and efficient care.
• Serve as a resource person when needed.
• Provide care for patients from birth to elderly during pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative phases.
• Apply age-specific considerations and cultural diversity in patient care.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Alaska.
• Minimum of 1 year of recent Operating Room (OR) experience within the last year.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.

Skills and Knowledge

• Proficient oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to practice nursing according to Alaska state regulations.
• Cognitive and technical knowledge to manage care across the continuum.
• Flexibility with work schedule and ability to work independently within prescribed limits.
• Ability to administer treatments and medications, interpret diagnostic tests, and provide education to patients and families.
• Knowledge of AORN standards and medical terminology.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, and regulations.
• Strong documentation skills and ability to follow guidelines and procedures.
• Mathematical skills including basic arithmetic, ratios, percentages, and graph interpretation.
• Problem-solving skills and ability to interpret various forms of instructions.

Equipment Used

• Office equipment: computer, telephone, fax machine, copy machine.
• Medical equipment: cardiac monitors, autoclave.

Supervisory Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Charge Nurse to oversee Administrative Assistants, Schedulers, and CSR Technicians.
