Description
ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Nashville, Tennessee
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
Hours per Week: 36
Job Summary
- Must have at least 2 years of ICU nursing experience.
- Prior travel experience is required.
- Must be comfortable working with the prison population.
- Local candidates are accepted at the same rate.
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA certified, must be valid throughout assignment (no expiration within 90 days of start).
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA certified, must be valid throughout assignment (no expiration within 90 days of start).
- NIH Stroke Certification – AHA or APEX certified, must be valid throughout assignment.
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) or MAB (Management of Assaultive Behavior) accepted in lieu of CPI; must be valid throughout assignment.
- Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) – Required for ICU; must pass with a score above 90%. Two attempts allowed; failure results in contract termination.
- Competency Exams – Medication/Pharmacology and Core competency exams required.
Licensure
- Must hold a valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Tennessee.
- Primary source verification and NURSYS verification required.
Background and Compliance Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (driver’s license or state ID) must be carried during hours of service.
- Social Security Number/Card required for system access.
- Background checks including 7-year criminal history, SS trace, nationwide sex offender registry, and facility-level checks must be current (within 1 year) and updated annually.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for contract renewals.
- Drug screening: 9-panel drug test including marijuana, completed annually.
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Initial physical exam and annual updates confirming ability to meet physical demands.
- Fit mask test (3M 1860s, 1860, or 1870+) updated annually.
- Immunizations or titers required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (1 adult dose required)
- Negative TB test (PPD, Quantiferon Gold, or T-spot) within 6 months or chest X-ray if prior positive.
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella – positive titers or 2 vaccines (1 vaccine for Rubella if titer low).
- Hepatitis B – titer, vaccine series, or declination.
- Varicella – positive titer or 2 vaccines.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually.
- COVID-19 vaccination required prior to start; medical/religious exemptions considered.
Orientation and Facility-Specific Requirements
- Must review and bring copies of orientation packets, guidebooks, and travel packets to orientation.
- Passport-style photo (white background, no hats/masks/sunglasses) required prior to start for badge.
- Completion of assigned LMS education modules 5 days prior to start (15-18 modules depending on unit).
- Completion of various facility-specific forms including confidentiality agreement, compliance acknowledgment, and new hire information forms due prior to start.
- Parking permit application required before start.
- Must sign acknowledgment of pass/fail testing and other competency requirements prior to start.
Additional Notes
- Candidates must complete all labs within 72 hours of signing the contract.
- Medication and EKG competency exams must be completed within 48 hours of receiving access; failure after two attempts results in contract termination.
- ICU travelers must score at least 90% on arrhythmia review testing; two attempts allowed.
- References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations required.
- Performance evaluations required if previously worked with the facility for over 1 year.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee.
- Minimum of 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) nursing experience, with ICU experience within the last year.
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Current ACLS certification.
- Certification in NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS).
- Certification in Calm Every Storm or CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute).
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Prior travel nursing experience.
