ICU & ED Float – Days (Contract)

Job Summary

• Function as both a caregiver and care manager for a group of patients, implementing the Nursing Process.
• Direct and oversee other caregivers through delegation, coordination, supervision, and evaluation of patient care outcomes.
• Make sound clinical decisions independently when necessary.
• May serve as Charge Nurse, managing patient assignments, admissions, discharges, transfers, staff coverage, and problem-solving.

Essential Functions

• Perform patient assessments focusing on physiologic, psychosocial, and cognitive status.
• Implement care according to established procedures, policies, and care plans.
• Identify and address patient and family learning needs.
• Document patient care accurately in electronic or paper medical records.
• Delegate patient care activities appropriately and supervise assigned coworkers.
• Organize and prioritize tasks using critical thinking skills.
• Adhere to safety protocols including infection control, equipment use, fire and disaster procedures, and safe body mechanics.
• Maintain professional appearance and conduct consistent with organizational standards.
• Engage courteously and efficiently with team members and support groups.
• Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current in nursing practice.

Required Qualifications

Education & Licensure

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Washington State.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Experience

• Minimum of 1 year of recent Intensive Care Unit (ICU) experience within the last year.
• Acute care nursing experience.
• Experience in Charge Nurse or similar leadership roles.

Physical Requirements

• Frequent standing, walking, lifting, reaching, kneeling, bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling.
• Ability to lift/carry up to 30 lbs and assist with lifting/pushing/pulling 60 to 300 pounds multiple times per shift.
• Manual dexterity to manage multiple pieces of equipment and invasive lines for 8 to 12 hours per shift.
• Visual acuity sufficient for patient assessment and documentation.
• Emotional stability to handle high-stress situations and fast-paced environments.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills for interaction with healthcare team, patients, and families.

Additional Information

• Up to 24 hours of on-call availability may be required during the assignment at no additional cost.
• May cancel up to two shifts per month or up to six shifts within any 13-week assignment.

This position offers a dynamic role floating between ICU and Emergency Department settings, requiring flexibility, strong clinical skills, and the ability to manage complex patient care situations.
