Registered Nurse – Emergency Department
Location: Asheville, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Overview
- Emergency Department with 101 beds
- Patient ratios typically 4:1 (medical), up to 7:1 on behavioral holds
- Staffing includes techs in cardiac monitoring, triage, and unit clerks (days and nights)
- Equipment used: Baxter pumps, GE monitors
- Documentation system: Cerner
- Scheduling: Every other weekend required; no block scheduling; must meet department needs
- Floating: No floating outside ED; must float within all ED sections
- Patient experience focus: AIDET communication, respectful behavior, ongoing patient updates
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Certifications required before start date:
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
- Crisis Prevention Intervention Training (CPI)

- Unit emphasizes patient safety and quality care, supported by advanced certifications and technology
- Dress code: Navy scrubs required
Schedule & Hours
- 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend required
Additional Notes
- Prior experience in a high-volume Emergency Department (>100,000 visits annually) is preferred
- Previous experience with the hospital system is a plus but not mandatory
- Attendance policy and unit-specific guidelines provided on day one of assignment
