Registered Nurse (CVICU) - Travel Assignment
Location: Asheville, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Employment Type: Travel
Unit Overview
- Unit: Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU)
- Number of Beds: 16
- Patient Ratios: Typically 2:1 or 1:1; occasionally 3:1 depending on acuity
- Staffing: RNs only (no unit clerks or patient care techs)
- Equipment: Ventilators, Telemetry, Baxter IV Pumps, Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP), Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT), Impella, Hypothermia equipment
- Documentation System: Cerner
- Scheduling: 36 hours per week, 12-hour shifts, alternating weekends
- Floating Policy: Travelers float to all areas within the unit
Required Qualifications
- Licensure: Registered Nurse (RN) license required in North Carolina
- Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIH Certification required; CCRN recommended but not required
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in critical care nursing specialty (CVICU/ICU)
- ICU experience is mandatory
Skills and Competencies
- Must have experience with:
- Titration of vesicant medications
- Familiarity with pressors, sedation, and paralytics
- Ventilator management and tracheostomy care
- Telemetry interpretation
- Understanding and setup/interpretation of hemodynamics and pulmonary artery (PA) catheter
- Advanced skills (desirable but not required):
- IABP, Impella, CRRT
- Procedures performed on unit include:
- Cardioversion
- Central line insertion
- Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD)
- Bronchoscopy
- Chest tube insertion and maintenance
- Pericardiocentesis
- Thoracentesis
Dress Code
- Scrub colors: All navy or navy and white
- No pullovers or hoodies allowed
- No green scrubs except when uniform is soiled at work

- The team uses up-to-date equipment and documentation systems
- The schedule offers consistent 12-hour shifts with alternating weekends off
- Floating to other areas within the unit is expected for travelers
