Registered Nurse - Emergency Department

Location: Carlsbad, New Mexico
Employment Type: Travel

Shift: Days (6:30 AM – 6:00 PM)

Job Description

• Provide nursing care to Emergency Room patients using the Nursing Process in accordance with state Nurse Practice Act and hospital policies.
• Demonstrate critical thinking, scientific judgment, and leadership to ensure safe patient care delivery in a Level 3 Trauma Emergency Department.
• Maintain clinical competencies through continuing education.
• Delegate patient care priorities based on staff education and experience.
• Provide direction and supervision to assigned personnel delivering patient care.
• Perform thorough patient assessments and communicate findings effectively.
• Administer medications and monitor for side effects.
• Adhere to safety standards, infection control, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Use MedHost (EDIS) electronic medical record system.
• Floating between units is required.
• Call-out requirement: minimum 2 hours prior to shift start.
• Patient ratio: 4:1.
• Blocked scheduling and 48-hour guarantees are not approved.
• Time off blackout dates: 1 summer and 1 winter holiday, dependent on department needs.
• Maximum time off: 1 per schedule (6-week scheduling).
• Fingerprints required for all travelers in New Mexico.
• Uniform: Full uniform, no specific scrub color required.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of RN experience.
• Current RN license valid in New Mexico.
• Certifications required: ACLS, BLS, PALS, TNCC.
• Certifications preferred: ENPC, NRP.
