Job Opportunity: Oncology Chemo Certified Registered Nurse
Location: Santa Rosa, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 8 weeks
Job Description
- Position in an outpatient Oncology Clinic focused on Medical Oncology and Radiation Oncology.
- Daily responsibilities include administering 6 infusions and performing 1-2 port draws.
- Familiarity with Alaris Infusion Pumps and CADD Ambulatory Pumps is required.
- Oncology certification required (ONCC or ONS).
- Experience with EPIC electronic health records preferred.
- Shift options generally fall within daytime hours (examples: 7:45 AM–4:15 PM, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM, 9:30 AM–6:00 PM).
- Weekends and on-call duties are not required.
- Locals and first-time travel nurses are welcome.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California.
- Minimum 1 year of oncology nursing experience within the last year.
- Oncology certification (ONCC or ONS) mandatory.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Experience in an outpatient setting.
- Infusion nursing experience.
Certifications & Competencies
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation certification.
- Oncology certification (ONCC or ONS).
- Familiarity with chemotherapy administration protocols.
- EPIC experience preferred but not mandatory.
- Medication/pharmacology competency as applicable.
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO, confirming ability to work.
- Immunizations/vaccinations required or documented declinations:
- TDAP (Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis) within 10 years.
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer.
- Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer.
- Hepatitis B vaccination series or signed declination.
- Seasonal flu vaccine during flu season or signed declination.
- COVID-19 vaccination record preferred; declinations accepted with adherence to masking policies.
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months of start, updated annually.
- 9-panel drug screen within 12 months of start.
Background & Documentation
- Background check within 90 days covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years; must be updated annually.
- Education verification required for nursing degree.
- Employment application covering at least last 5 years of employment with explanations for any gaps or overlaps.
- Minimum of 2 professional references covering 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty/setting within the last 3 years.
- NURSYS license verification required.
Additional Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
- Social Security Card as applicable for I9 verification.
- E-Verify attestation required.
- Completion of annual regulatory and specialty-specific training modules via assigned LMS platform.
- Respiratory safety clearance and fit mask testing required for travel nurses, updated annually.
- Passport-style badge photo with neutral background may be required.
Work Schedule & Hours
- 40 hours per week guaranteed.
- Typical shifts are 8 hours during the day, Monday through Friday.
- No weekend or call requirements.
Notes
- Manager and clinic staff value and recognize travel nurses, with many return travelers on the team.
- Return travelers often receive recognition and award recommendations.
- RTO (Return to Office) restrictions must be disclosed at time of application.
This position offers a supportive environment for oncology nurses, including those new to travel nursing, with a focus on infusion therapy in an outpatient oncology setting.
