Ultrasound Tech - General (Travel/Contract)
Location: Wilmington, North Carolina
Specialty: Radiology / Cardiology (OB/GYN Ultrasound Focus)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Work in an outpatient midwifery practice with a mix of OB/GYN patients.
- Perform approximately 10 ultrasounds per day, including GYN scans, dating/viability, anatomy, growth, nuchal translucency (NT), and biophysical profile (BPP).
- Use TA (transabdominal) and TV (transvaginal) ultrasound techniques.
- Two ultrasound rooms available; one ultrasound tech needed.
- Patient age groups include adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
- No call, float, or weekend requirements.
- Shift: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM (40 hours/week).
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience as an OB/GYN Sonographer, including experience within the last year.
- At least one completed travel assignment.
- Experience working in a clinic setting.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Proficient in obstetrics sonography skills across 1st, 2nd, and 3rd trimesters.
- Skilled in performing GYN scans, dating and viability ultrasounds, growth ultrasounds, nuchal translucency (NT) ultrasounds, and biophysical profile (BPP) ultrasounds.
- Experienced in both transabdominal (TA) and transvaginal (TV) ultrasound techniques.
Orientation & Start Details
- Orientation: 40 hours required.
- Start date is flexible based on trainer availability; travelers must be fully available with no other commitments during orientation week (start may be Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday).
- Missing any portion of orientation may delay or cancel the start.
- Return to Office (RTO) after booking is not allowed and cannot be worked out onsite.
Equipment & Systems
- Ultrasound machines: GE Expert 22, GE E8, V-scan ProAir.
- Unit systems: Pyxis, EPIC (electronic health record system).
Patient Diagnoses
- Pregnancy and gynecological care in a midwifery practice setting with 9 midwives and 4 MDs for GYN care.
Additional Requirements & Notes
- Scrubs: Royal Blue (not provided).
- RTO (Return to Office) allowance: maximum 7 days for auto-offer.
- Patient volume: approximately 20 visits per day.
- Two rooms and beds available for ultrasound procedures.
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background check within 6 months for clinical candidates.
- Drug screening (9-panel) within 6 months of start.
- Immunizations and health documents including:
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (or proof of past positive TB with appropriate documentation).
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B immunizations or titers as required.
- Flu vaccination or approved exemption with mask requirement during flu season.
- Photo ID for badge creation (passport-style photo on white background, business attire, no head coverings except glasses).
- Completion of facility-specific education modules and compliance training prior to start.
- Proof of logging into facility’s learning management system (I-Learn) within 24 hours of account setup.
- Required to sign confidentiality, compliance, and facility policy acknowledgment forms.
Scheduling & Work Environment
- Monday through Friday, 8-hour day shifts (8:00 AM - 4:30 PM).
- No weekend, call, or float requirements.
- Patient population includes adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
This position is ideal for ultrasound technologists with outpatient OB/GYN experience who have prior travel contract experience and are looking for a stable weekday schedule in a midwifery clinic setting.
