Registered Nurse – Emergency Department
Location: Asheville, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Overview
- Emergency Department with 101 beds
- Patient ratios typically 4:1 for medical patients; up to 7:1 for behavioral holds
- Staffing includes techs (cardiac monitoring, triage), unit clerks (days and nights)
- Equipment used: Baxter pumps, GE monitors
- Documentation system: Cerner
- Scheduling: Every other weekend required; no block scheduling; schedule must meet department needs
- Floating: No floating outside the ED; must float within all ED sections
- Patient experience focus: AIDET communication, respectful behavior, ongoing patient updates
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Certifications required before start date:
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Crisis Prevention Intervention Training (CPI)
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
- National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
Work Environment & Culture
- Known for strong teamwork and welcoming staff personalities
- Serves a highly multicultural community with over 120 languages spoken in the area
- Uniform: Navy scrubs required
- Attendance policy provided on first day
Advanced Skills & Procedures
- Experience with procedures commonly performed in a high-volume ED setting is expected (specific procedures not detailed)
Additional Notes
- Previous experience with the hospital system preferred but not required
- The department is recognized for nursing excellence and patient safety standards
- The hospital holds Magnet® designation and has received multiple national quality and safety awards
