Job Opportunity: Cath Lab Tech

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years in Radiology / Cardiology specialty

Prior Travel Experience

Work Setting & Procedures

  • Diagnostic and Interventional Cardiac Cath Lab
  • Procedures include:
    • Cardiac Stent Placement
    • Diagnostic Catheterizations (Adult)
    • IABP Placement/Removal
    • Interventional Catheterizations
    • Left and Right Heart Catheterization
    • Percutaneous Coronary Interventions (PCI)
    • Pulmonary Artery Line/Swan Ganz monitoring

Medications & IV Therapy

  • Administration and monitoring of:
    • Antiarrhythmics
    • Antihypertensives
    • Emergency Medications
    • IV vasopressors
    • Procedural Sedation and Reversal agents
    • Thrombolytics
  • Blood Product Administration
  • Use of IV infusion pumps and starting IVs

Professional Knowledge & Skills

  • 12 Lead EKG interpretation
  • Activated Clotting Time (ACT)
  • Cardioversion
  • Circulate Procedures
  • Infection Prevention and Isolation Precautions
  • Dysrhythmia interpretation and management
  • Malignant Hyperthermia Protocols
  • Monitoring Procedural Sedation
  • Richmond Agitation-Sedation Scale
  • Sheath Removal and Monitoring

Preferred Skills (Not Required)

  • Advanced procedures such as ASD Closures, Impella insertion, Rotablader athrectomy, TAVI/TAVR
  • Vascular studies including angioplasty and dialysis graft interventions
  • Central Line, Implanted Ports, and PICC Line care and maintenance
  • End-Tidal CO2 monitoring, Hypothermia protocols, Radiation and Laser Safety
  • Use of Vascular Closure Systems and External Compression Devices
  • Pressure Ulcer Assessment/Prevention
  • Ventilator Monitoring

Shift & Schedule

  • Day shift, Monday to Friday, 6:45 AM to 3:15 PM (5x8 hours)
  • Occasional late days (4-5 per month), rarely past 5 PM
  • Call one day per week and every fifth weekend
  • No weekend-only shifts
  • Floating as needed

Patient Population

  • Patients with a range of cardiovascular diagnoses including:
    • Coronary artery disease (stable/unstable angina, NSTEMI, STEMI)
    • Heart failure
    • Valvular and congenital heart disease
    • Pulmonary hypertension
    • Pericardial disease
    • Pre-operative cardiovascular evaluation

Special Procedures & Equipment

  • Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) including balloon angioplasty and stent placement
  • PFO/ASD closure, Cardiogenic shock management, CTO
  • Equipment used: Impella, Penumbra, EKOS, Roto, Ultrasound, Shockwave, ACIST, GE Mac Lab system

Patient Ratios

  • 1:1 ratio

Orientation & Training

  • Unit orientation: 16 hours
  • Scrubs provided

Required Certifications

  • Valid Cath Lab Technologist license in North Carolina
  • Cath Lab Technologist with minimum 2 years of experience, including experience within the last year
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross

Licensing

  • Must hold appropriate professional license for Cath Lab Tech role (as applicable by state and facility)

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background check within 6 months for clinical candidates
  • Drug screening within 6 months of start (9-panel or instant acceptable)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (or proof of past positive TB with appropriate documentation)
  • Required immunizations or titers: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • Physical exam and references as per travel healthcare standards
  • Radiation badge required for Cath Lab personnel
  • Completion of medication safety training and annual compliance training
  • Photo ID for badge creation (passport-style photo on white background, business attire)
  • Completion of facility-specific education modules and confidentiality agreements
  • Proof of login to facility’s learning management system (I-Learn) within 24 hours of account setup

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must be available for interview within 72 hours of application submission
  • Floating and call requirements are part of the role
  • No weekend-only shifts required
  • Facility uses electronic systems including Pyxis, SBAR, and Epic for medication, documentation, and communication
