Unit Details
- Unit: Cardiac stepdown unit
- Bed count: 18
- Patient ratio: 4:1
- Shift staffing: Day shift typically has 5 RNs, 1 charge clinician, and 2 patient care technicians; night shift typically has 5 nurses and 1 patient care technician
- Floating: Telemetry and med surg
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Virginia
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- BLS
- ACLS
- Cardiac Stepdown (2 years of experience)
- Cardiac Stepdown experience within the last year
- PCU - Progressive Care Unit experience
- Telemetry experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Stepdown experience
- Cardiac knowledge
Schedule / Work Expectations
- Every other weekend
- Overtime available
Unit Environment
- Uses central lines, PCA, Foley catheters, chest tubes, pacer wires, telemetry, and drains
- Common procedures include CABG, valve replacement, TAVR, Mitral clip, thoracotomy, and care for Afib, CHF, and MI
- Common cardiac drips include Cardizem, amiodarone, heparin, and nitro
- Dress code: all navy scrubs
