RN - PCU
Job Overview
- Travel RN position in Denver, Colorado
- 13-week contract
- 36 hours per week
- Day shift: 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Colorado
- PCU - Progressive Care Unit (1 year of experience)
- PCU - Progressive Care Unit experience within the last year
- ACLS
- BLS
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Experience in an Acute Care setting
Preferred Experience
- Solid organ transplant experience
- Experience with higher oxygen delivery or respiratory support modalities such as Vapotherm, BiPAP, or CPAP
- Knowledge of chest tube management and care
- Experience with tracheostomy management and care
- Experience with NG/Dobhoff placement and management
- Experience managing DKA patients and insulin drips
- Strong critical thinking skills for identifying decompensating patients
Unit Details
- Stepdown/PCU unit with 34 beds
- Patient ratio is typically 1:4 to 1:5, with occasional 1:6 assignments
- Traveler may be required to manage ratios of 1:5 or 1:6
- Fast-paced surgical transplant environment with a strong teamwork culture
Common Unit Responsibilities
- Wound and drain care
- Frequent lab draws from central lines
- Blood product transfusions
- Use of soft physical restraints
- Non-invasive cardiac monitoring
- Continuous bladder irrigation
- Plasmapheresis on the unit
- Care for patients on heparin drips, PCA, epidurals, anti-arrhythmic drips, and with cardiac arrhythmias
- Central line care and telemetry strip interpretation
- Infection prevention for immunocompromised patients
