RN - PCU

Job Overview

  • Travel RN position in Denver, Colorado
  • 36 hours per week
  • 13-week contract
  • Night shift: 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Colorado
  • PCU - Progressive Care Unit experience within the last year
  • 1 year of PCU - Progressive Care Unit experience
  • ACLS
  • BLS
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Experience in an Acute Care setting

Unit Details

  • 34-bed surgical transplant stepdown/PCU unit split across two floors
  • Patient ratio is typically 1:3-4, with travelers expected to handle 1:5-6
  • Fast-paced environment with a strong teamwork culture

Preferred Experience

  • Solid organ transplant experience
  • Experience with higher oxygen delivery or respiratory support modalities such as Vapotherm, BiPAP, or CPAP
  • Chest tube management and care
  • Tracheostomy management and care
  • NG/Dobhoff placement and management
  • DKA and insulin drip management
  • Strong critical thinking skills for identifying decompensating patients

Common Unit Procedures

  • Wound and drain care
  • Frequent lab draws from central lines
  • Blood product transfusions
  • Two-point soft physical restraints
  • NICOM monitoring
  • Continuous bladder irrigation
  • Plasmapheresis
  • Care for patients on heparin drips, PCA, epidurals, anti-arrhythmic drips, and with cardiac arrhythmias
  • Central line care and telemetry strip interpretation
  • Infection prevention for immunocompromised patients
