Description
FULL-TIME DAYS - North Central Baptist Hospital
The NICU Therapist is responsible for the system wide administration, interpretation and evaluation of tests and measurements in the NICU. Plans and modifies treatment programs. Works with neonatal intensive care patients, pediatric intensive care patients, pediatric inpatients and outpatients, and developmental follow-up patients with advanced level clinical competency. Works as part of a multidisciplinary care team to provide evidence based, individualized family centered developmental care. Completes established competencies for the position within designated introductory period. Other related duties as assigned.
General Functions:
- Interprets physician orders and requests interpretation as necessary
- Administers and interprets tests and measurements of patients
- Reviews patient chart and progress prior to treatment and modifies the treatment plan accordingly
- Develops realistic developmental goals based on multidisciplinary team expectations
- Instructs and involves patient, family, social worker, nursing staff and discharge planner in patient’s progress and discharge plans, participating in appropriate meetings.
- Maintains documentation on all treatments
- Uses appropriate modalities and procedures correctly demonstrating knowledge of indications and contraindications
- Assures appropriate equipment performance prior to each use
- Organizes schedule to reflect patient priorities, needs of other staff, and the department needs and responsibilities
- Provides in-service to, therapists, nursing, residents and fellows
- Provides clinical observation for Therapy students
- Utilizes supportive personnel and supervises administration of treatment plans
- Informs supervisor of incidents, accidents, equipment failure or unusual physician or patient
- problems immediately, initiating appropriate action.
- Maintains a working knowledge of routine clerical procedures
- Utilizes resources efficiently and effectively
- Maintains safe environment
- Addresses patient population –specific needs
- Participates in Performance Improvement activities
MINIMUM EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Physical or Occupational Therapy from an accredited college or university. Master’s Degree in Speech Therapy from an accredited college or university.
PREFERRED EDUCATION: Master’s Degree in Speech Language Pathology/Communication Sciences and Disorders or Equivalent. Master’s or Doctorate Degree in Physical Therapy or Occupational Therapy from an accredited college or university
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: Pediatric population work, clinical observation, volunteer work, or relevant applicable experiences. 4 years of licensed therapy work.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Consistent and dedicated NICU and/or pediatric experience. Spanish Proficiency
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: Possession of current Texas State license in Speech. ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC)
PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: Certified Neonatal Therapist, Infant Massage, Pediatric Certified Specialist, Pediatric Residency, NICU Fellowship
REQUIRED COURSES/ COMPLETIONS (e.g., CPR): BLS-Obtained through approved American Heart Association Training Center or the Military Training Network.
