Description
- Provide direct instruction in independent travel skills, spatial awareness, orientation techniques, and cane travel for students with visual impairments.
- Conduct orientation and mobility assessments to evaluate student strengths, needs, and current travel abilities.
- Develop and implement measurable goals and objectives for orientation and mobility services within students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Participate in Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) committee meetings and contribute to IEP development.
- Collaborate and consult with teachers, administrators, related service providers, and families regarding mobility strategies, accommodations, and environmental modifications.
- Maintain accurate records of assessments, student progress, service delivery, and required documentation in compliance with Texas regulations and district procedures.
- Hold current certification as a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) or equivalent, and meet Texas employment requirements (including background checks).
- Possess strong communication, assessment, instructional, and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively on multidisciplinary teams.
