United Health Services (UHS) is seeking a dedicated Certified Clinical Laboratory Technician/Histotechnician. Under the direction of the section supervisor, performs both routine and specialized testing within the pathology laboratory in a timely and accurate manner. Adheres to all applicable UHS, hospital, infection control, laboratory, and departmental policies and procedures, as well as regulatory guidelines established by the NYSDOH and CDC related to blood and body fluid safety. Prioritizes STAT testing and other time-sensitive analyses requiring immediate processing to ensure optimal patient care outcomes.

Job Responsibilities

• Performs anatomical analyses for routine, special and automated tests

• Performs and documents quality control and preventive maintenance on designated laboratory equipment

• Performs specimen fixation, embedding, microtomy, staining, and IHC analysis

• Adheres to laboratory procedures for specimen collection, handling, and processing, analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patients test results

• Perform specimen grossing of surgically removed tissue under the supervision of the Pathologist or designee

Position Qualifications

Minimum Required:

• Associate degree in clinical laboratory technology, Histotechnology, or equivalent program that would be eligible for licensure in NYS within a hospital laboratory setting

• Registered as a Certified Histotechnician or Histotechnologist within NYS or NYS Certified Clinical Laboratory Technician

Preferred:

• One (1) year of clinical Histology experience

Work Environment

• Most work is performed in heated and air conditioned surroundings.
• Ability to lift 25 pounds, walking reaching, standing and sitting.
• When performing laboratory testing or assisting with autopsy, eyewear, gloves, masks/face shields must be worn according to NYS Dept. of Health, and UHSH Infection Control, and CDC Blood and Body Fluids Policies and Procedures.
