Description

Work Environment

  • Work is performed in an office environment that requires working in proximity to other employees and patients.
  • The office is air conditioned as well as heated.
  • Exposure to equipment cleaning solutions and disinfectants.
  • Fast-paced environment including frequent interruptions.
  • PPE- Eyewear, Masks, Face shields, Shoe covers, Gloves per UHS Infection Control and CDC guidelines when appropriate.

HIPAA Roles-Based Access to Patient Information

  • Clinical – Access to patient information that is not restricted (an example of restricted information is ARU) – Level 3.

Sign-on Incentive:

Experienced candidates may be eligible for a sign-on bonus of up to $7,500.

Early candidates may qualify for up to $12,500 in tuition forgiveness.

Work Schedule:

  • 40 hour work week
  • 10 hour work days
  • On-call shifts to provide 24/7 coverage, including weekends and holidays

Education/Experience

Minimum Required:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Practical Nursing.

Preferred:

  • Previous clinical experience in a hospital setting.
  • Previous Operating Room experience.


License/Certification

Minimum Required:

  • Current New York State Practical Nurse License.
  • CPR Certification required within 3 months of hire.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Follows Infection Control policies and procedures and demonstrates expertise in surgical scrub technique.

  • Adheres to principles of sterile technique preoperatively and intra-operatively.

  • Assists the surgeon when needed gowning, gloving, draping, and passing of instruments and other related items during the procedure. Anticipates the surgeon’s need for instruments, sutures, and equipment.

  • Maintains an organized operative field at all times by keeping the instruments clean and in their proper place.

  • Keeps an accurate sponge, tape, needle, dissector, and instrument count.

  • Prepares for cases by assembling supplies and equipment in accordance with preference cards and identifies conflicts or problems. Cares appropriately for instruments and supplies after each case.

  • Provides a safe surgical environment for the patient, identifying potential hazards to the surgeon, RN and assisting RN circulator in preoperative checks of equipment.

  • Displays knowledge of potential hazards (equipment, chemical, or gases) within the Operating Room.

  • Utilizes experienced OR staff as a resource, and acts as a resource for new OR personnel.

  • Assists in suturing, retracting, suctioning under direction of the surgeon.

  • Handles and identifies specimens per policy.

  • Expedites the effective and efficient turn-over of the OR between cases.

  • Takes rotating call duty.

Position Overview United Health Services (UHS) Chenango Memorial Hospital is actively seeking a skilled and dedicated LPN/OR Tech to join our dynamic surgical team. In this vital role, you will play a crucial part in delivering safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care within our fast-paced operating room environment. As an LPN/OR Surg Tech, you will be responsible for preparing operating rooms, meticulously ensuring all surgical instruments are sterile and readily available, and providing essential assistance to surgeons and nurses throughout various procedures. Your contributions directly support optimal patient outcomes and the smooth operation of the surgical suite. Under general direction, observes and practices sterile technique, maintains asepsis, anticipates and assists the surgeon as needed. Actively participates in patient care and safety. Utilizes OR supplies conservatively and operates as a team member of the OR staff.
