Unit Information

Unit: Oncology - 7th floor and outpatient
Number of Beds: 29
Patient Ratios: 1:5, occasionally 1:6
Charting System: MEDITECH
Care Setting: Acute
Common Diagnoses/Patient Types: Acute oncology symptoms, thrombocytopenia, neutropenia, sickle cell crisis, hematology, medical overflow, oncology, end-of-life care

Requirements

Experience: At least 2 years in the specialty; no first-time travelers
Certifications: BLS (AHA); NIHSS preferred, ONS if administering chemotherapy
License: Must be valid

Staffing

Charge Nurse: Present, with staffing grid exceptions
Nurse Aides: Typically 3 per day

Additional Information

Telemetry: Available; central monitor, reading strips not required
Floating: Rare, primarily to medical acute
Floor-Specific Orientation: 3 days provided
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Holidays: Rotation with staff
Scrub Color: Caribbean Blue

Operational Notes

Patients may transition from outpatient to floor for continued treatment after closure of outpatient area
Cancellation Policy: 12 hours every 2 weeks
