Unit Name: Davenport 8 - Medical Telemetry Unit

Unit Description: Davenport 8 is a 37-bed medical telemetry unit admitting patients from the ED, transferred from other units, or directly by a physician. Patients often require management with Cardizem, Nitroglycerin, Lasix, and Heparin drips. Care is also provided for NSTEMI, post-pacemaker, and post-cardiac catheterization patients.

Patient Population: The primary diagnoses include CHF, Atrial Fibrillation, Pulmonary Embolism, and Pneumonia. The unit also cares for patients with EtOH and Dementia with cardiac co-morbidities, as well as occasional surgical patients.

Experience Required: 2 years

Floating: Travelers are required to float to applicable units when needed.

Rotating Shifts: Day Rotators may be rotated between shifts (7a-7p, 11a-11p, or 7p-7a) when necessary. The rotation frequency is usually low. Night positions do not rotate.

Skill Sets Required: Knowledge of cardiac drips and the ability to interpret telemetry strips is essential. While nursing care for patients post-cardiac catheterization and pacemaker is beneficial, it is not required.

Clinician to Patient Ratio: - Day and Evening: 1:4 with a maximum of 5. - Night: 1:5-6. - Day shift on weekdays includes a charge nurse without a patient assignment.

Bed Count: 37 beds, including 10 semi-private rooms, 1 quadruple room, 1 triple room, 10 private rooms, and 1 negative pressure room.
