Purpose of Position
Provide respiratory care to patients.
Responsibilities
- Identify acute and chronic cardiopulmonary dysfunction.
- Initiate and provide ventilatory support with recommended settings, using lung protective strategies, and appropriately wean the patient.
- Monitor and troubleshoot ventilators using best practices and approved protocols, procedures, and department policies.
- Perform diagnostic procedures such as ABG draws, sputum specimen collection, interpret ABGs, bedside spirometry, and capnography.
- Monitor patients' respiratory condition during intra-facility transport and transport to other facilities, if needed.
- Attend codes and rapid response situations.
- Assist with conscious sedation, intubations, bronchoscopies, and provide care to neonatal and pediatric populations.
- Assess, maintain, and provide care for tracheostomy and laryngectomy tubes, including performing naso-tracheal, endotracheal, and tracheostomy suctioning.
- Document tracheostomy details in the electronic medical record.
- Work with nursing staff to provide tracheostomy care and suctioning.
- Assess, administer, troubleshoot, and maintain various airway clearance methods and devices.
- Administer therapeutic gases and aerosolized/metered dose medications.
- Participate in multidisciplinary rounds to offer clinical expertise.
- Provide accurate and complete documentation in the electronic medical record.
- Perform charge reconciliation to ensure correct billing.
- Interact positively and respectfully with providers and other staff.
- Demonstrate excellent bedside manner.
- Precept, train, and orient other departments, students, and respiratory staff.
- Maintain equipment, supplies, and stock.
- Attend seminars and educational programs to enhance professional growth.
- Consistently provide service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers, and co-workers.
- Perform other work-related duties as requested or assigned.
Qualifications
- Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT).
- State licensure in Respiratory Therapy.
- Current BLS certification.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
- Minimum of one-year critical care experience preferred.
