The Registered Respiratory Therapist I (RT-I) is an individual licensed by the NYS Department of Education to perform respiratory therapy procedures, cardio-respiratory diagnostics, and patient assessment under the direction of a licensed physician.
Responsibilities:
- Assess, treat, and care for patients with breathing disorders.
- Assume primary responsibility for all respiratory care modalities, including supervision of respiratory therapy technicians.
- Initiate and conduct therapeutic procedures and maintain patient records.
- Select, assemble, check, and operate equipment.
Requirements:
- Graduate of an AMA-approved program of Respiratory Care (Minimum Associate Degree).
- Possess an active NYS Respiratory Therapist License with an up-to-date CE profile, free of disciplinary action.
- At least 3 years of experience as an RRT in an academic medical center environment.
- Experience with both Pediatric and adult critical care skills is highly desirable.
- Experience with emergency department procedures is highly desirable.
- Exposure to the management of neonatal patients is desirable.
- Experience with patient transport (both inter- and intra-hospital).
- EPIC EHR experience required.
- Active Basic Life Support certificate required; active ACLS certification preferred.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
- Must be able to read, speak, comprehend, and write English.
- Ability to read documents such as physician orders and progress notes.
- Communicate cooperatively and effectively with customers and others in English.
- Possess computer skills for skillful navigation of the electronic medical record.
- Apply basic math skills including adding, subtracting, multiplication, and division.
- Simple algebraic skills necessary in many calculations, including medication dosing.
- Perform the job in adherence to the highest standards of ethical conduct.
- Maintain professional dress and demeanor.
- Accountable for personal performance.
- Understand to carry out written instructions and troubleshoot unclear or contradictory physician orders.
- Prioritize emergent vs. non-emergent requests for service.
