Position Overview
The Registered Respiratory Therapist I (RT-I) licensed by the NYS Department of Education performs respiratory therapy procedures, cardio-respiratory diagnostics, and patient assessment under the direction of a licensed physician.
Responsibilities
- Assess, treat, and care for patients with breathing disorders.
- Assume primary responsibility for respiratory care modalities and supervise respiratory therapy technicians.
- Initiate and conduct therapeutic procedures.
- Select, assemble, check, and operate equipment.
Qualifications
- Education: Graduate of an AMA-approved program of Respiratory Care (Minimum Associate Degree).
- Licensure, Certification & Registration: Active NYS Respiratory Therapist License with an updated CE profile, free of disciplinary action.
- Certification: Active Basic Life Support certificate required; ACLS certification preferred.
- Experience: At least 3 years as a Registered Respiratory Therapist in an academic medical center. Skills in both pediatric and adult critical care are highly desirable. Experience with emergency department procedures and management of neonatal patients is desirable. Familiarity with patient transport (both inter- and intra-hospital) is preferred.
- EPIC EHR Experience: Required.

- Communication Skills: Proficiency in reading, speaking, comprehending, and writing English. Ability to communicate effectively with customers and colleagues.
- Mathematical Skills: Basic math prowess, including algebraic skills necessary for calculations, and ability to add fractions and decimals.
- Professional Skills: Adherence to ethical standards and confidentiality. Maintain professional dress and demeanor, instilling confidence in patients and peers.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to execute written orders and troubleshoot unclear physician instructions. Prioritize service requests effectively.
