Scrub Technologist in Cardiac Surgery

Role Overview:

The Adult Cardiac Operating Room (OR) provides care for patients undergoing a variety of cardiac procedures such as CABG, TAVI, heart failure treatments including VADs, ECMO, artificial heart, and heart transplants. The surgical environment is dynamic, requiring a multidisciplinary approach to cater to patients of all ages.

As a Surgical Technologist, you will utilize your technical knowledge to prepare instruments, equipment, and supplies for surgical procedures. You will assist the surgical team from the scrub position during operations. Your responsibilities will also include the proper care and handling of instruments, facilitated room turnover between cases, and maintaining sterile techniques. Additionally, you will ensure the safe handling of sharps and perform surgical counts per hospital policy. Proper handling of solutions and pharmacologic agents under the direction of a registered nurse is also required.

Key Requirements:

• Certification from NBSTSA or a minimum of 10 years of experience as a Surgical Technician.
• At least two years of recent experience in a cardiac OR.
• Ability to scrub and circulate.

Certifications:

• Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association.

Desired Experience:

• Experience in a Level 1 trauma operating room is highly preferred.
• Up-to-date on best practices for maintaining sterile environments and assisting in cardiac surgical procedures.
