Description

Purpose of Position:

The manager of the Clinical Resource Department is responsible for the operations and clinical management of Case Management, Utilization Review, and Social Work, with a secondary focus on the Clinical Documentation team. This role oversees discharge planning, utilization management, and care coordination/high-risk patient processes, ensuring the integrity of daily operations and facilitating ongoing education and process improvement for staff.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage case management and social services program staff and workflows, including scheduling and performance evaluations. Assist the Manager of Operations with the Clinical Documentation team as needed.
  • Conduct rounds on patient units to identify issues and assist in facilitating the discharge process.
  • Develop continuing education programs for staff, including case managers and social workers, focusing on role functions and new processes.
  • Provide program education for new staff, including case managers, trainee program hires, social workers, physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals related to discharge planning and utilization review.
  • Track and trend program compliance, create dashboards to identify improvement opportunities, and implement process improvements.
  • Develop, mentor, and coach collaborative practice among physicians, nurses, and the clinical resource team.
  • Analyze and review program metrics using systems knowledge.
  • Stay current with regulatory changes in the case management field.
  • Identify and present process improvement opportunities and solutions to management. Engage with the organization's culture of continuous improvement.
  • Education/Experience/Training:

    • Minimum of 3 years of acute care experience within the past 5 years with broad clinical experience in a hospital setting or case management.
    • Working knowledge of InterQual or equivalent system.
    • Bachelor's degree in Nursing required; Master’s degree preferred.
    • Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse license.
    • Certification in Case Management or Clinical Documentation Integrity preferred.
    • Two years of experience in process improvement; minimum of 5 years of case management experience in an acute setting.
    • Experience in developing and presenting professional continuing education programs.
    • Knowledge of CMS regulations.
    • Excellent computer skills and familiarity with Windows-based software programs.
    • Strong organizational, analytical, writing, and interpersonal skills.
    • Management/supervisory experience preferred.
