Description:

  • May float between multiple facilities to provide care.

Purpose of Position:

  • Provide respiratory care to patients.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify acute and chronic cardiopulmonary dysfunction.
  • Initiate and provide ventilatory support; recommend appropriate ventilator settings.
  • Use lung protective strategies; appropriately wean the patient.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot the ventilator, applying best practice and following approved protocols, procedures, and department policies.
  • Perform diagnostic procedures such as ABG draws and sputum specimen collection; interpret ABGs.
  • Conduct bedside spirometry and capnography.
  • Maintain knowledge of monitors used on the units.
  • Oversee patients' respiratory condition during intra-hospital transport and to other facilities as needed.
  • Attend emergencies and assist with conscious sedation and intubations.
  • Administer therapeutic gases and assist with bronchoscopies.
  • Involved in treatment modalities for neonatal and pediatric populations.
  • Assess and maintain artificial airways, perform suctioning, and assist with tracheostomy tube changes.
  • Work with nursing staff for trach care and tracheal suction, document details in the EMR.
  • Manage and administer PEP, CPT, airway clearance devices/methods, aerosolized/ metered dose medications, and non-invasive ventilation.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary rounds to provide clinical expertise.
  • Ensure accurate and complete documentation/charging in the EMR; perform charge reconciliation daily.
  • Interact professionally with providers and staff; respond to requests promptly.
  • Demonstrate excellent bedside manner.
  • Precept/train/orient other departments, students, and staff as required.
  • Maintain equipment and supplies; attend seminars for professional growth.
  • Deliver consistent service excellence.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT).
  • Massachusetts state licensure in Respiratory Therapy.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Completion of Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
  • Minimum one-year of critical care experience preferred.
