Requirements
- Active RN license for the state of North Carolina (or ability to obtain)
- BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years recent MedSurg, Telemetry, and Step-Down (PCU) experience preferred
- Charge nurse experience preferred or willingness to consider charge responsibilities
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced unit focused on ED decompression and throughput
- Ability to float to other units within clinical skill set
- Must work every other weekend and assist with holidays; no on-call required
- Proficiency with Cerner documentation system
- Adherence to unit dress code: navy blue/white scrubs (no t-shirts)

Responsibilities
- Provide admission assessments, medication reconciliation, and initiate acute care orders for direct admits to the PCU
- Monitor and care for telemetry/step-down patients across a variety of diagnoses, maintaining unit patient ratios and safety standards
- Support patient throughput and ED decompression by efficiently managing admissions and transitions of care
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members and assist with unit staffing needs, including floating to other units as required
- Serve in charge nurse capacity when needed and participate in unit-focused initiatives to improve patient experience
- Document patient care accurately in Cerner and follow unit policies and guidelines

Job Description
This is a 13-week travel RN assignment on a 40-bed Progressive Care/Step-Down unit in Asheville, NC, beginning 03/08/2026 and ending 06/07/2026. The position is a day shift (06:15–19:15), 36 hours per week, supporting a high-throughput unit that accepts direct admits from the ED. The role requires assessment and admission of patients, medication reconciliation, initiation of acute care orders, continuous telemetry monitoring, and collaboration with the care team to optimize patient flow. Candidates should bring recent PCU/Telemetry/MedSurg experience, current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications, and a team-focused attitude. The unit uses Cerner for documentation, expects staff to float within their skill set, and requires working every other weekend and holiday support. Navy blue/white scrubs are the required uniform.
