Requirements
- Active RN license valid for practice in North Carolina (or multistate compact eligibility)
- BLS and ACLS certifications (required)
- Progressive care / step-down and telemetry experience (required)
- Preference for recent cardiovascular surgery and vascular surgery experience (open heart procedures, TAVR, thoracic cases, AAA, fem-pop, carotid)
- Ability to manage chest tubes, epidurals, enteral feedings, and multiple infusions including vasoactive drips and insulin/heparin protocols
- Comfortable working 1:5 patient ratios and flexible scheduling, including minimum weekend coverage (6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule)
- Experience with Cerner EMR preferred
- Team-oriented, adaptable to a fast-paced environment
Responsibilities
- Provide post-operative and progressive care for cardiovascular and vascular surgery patients, including continuous telemetry monitoring and assessment
- Manage complex nursing interventions such as chest tube and epidural care, tube feedings, and titration of cardiac and vasoactive infusions (e.g., milrinone, dobutamine, vasopressors, amiodarone)
- Administer and monitor insulin and anticoagulation infusions per protocols and escalate changes in patient condition appropriately
- Document patient care and clinical changes accurately in Cerner and participate in multidisciplinary rounds and handoffs
- Adhere to unit staffing ratios and contribute to team workflow; may float to similar acute units (step-down, medical-surgical, ER inpatient holding) as needed
- Maintain required certifications and follow unit dress code and policies

Job Description
This travel RN assignment is for a high-acuity cardiovascular progressive care unit in Asheville, NC. The unit cares primarily for post-operative cardiac and vascular surgery patients as well as complex cardiology medical patients. The nurse will work in a fast-paced step-down environment managing telemetry patients, vasoactive infusions, chest tubes, epidurals, and enteral nutrition while collaborating with an interdisciplinary team. Candidates should have strong telemetry and step-down skills, current BLS/ACLS, and be prepared for a schedule that includes regular weekend coverage. Experience with Cerner and recent CV surgery exposure are highly desirable.
