Job Summary and Qualifications

As an Infection Prevention Practitioner, you will coordinate the Infection Prevention Program while developing, implementing and maintaining a reporting system for hospital associated infections/communicable diseases. You will also maintain communication with hospital staff regarding detection and surveillance of possible hazardous situations, serve as resource person to hospital staff in the area of Infection Control and establish and implement in-service and continuing educational programs concerning infection control procedures.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Your primary function in this role will be to assist all department managers in developing, implementing and updating the infection control standards for their departments

• You will maintain/expand computer skills to enhance program analysis and documentation

• You must also actively participate in the planning and implementation of emergency preparedness

What qualifications you will need:

• Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• 3+ years hospital nursing or infection prevention experience, basic PC skills in a Windows operating environment with a working knowledge of Infection Prevention database software required
• Registered Nurse, Medical Technologist, or Public Health degree required
• Completion of certification in Infection Prevention and Control must be obtained within 3 years of beginning role
• Certification in Infection Control preferred. Completion of a basic Infection Control course offered through a teaching hospital (minimum 40 hours) or the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc
