We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Orthopedic team in Urbana, IL. As a professional caregiver, you will assume responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame and provide care utilizing the nursing process, current nursing trends, technology, and available resources within the philosophy of the institution.
Essential Functions:
- Perform all responsibilities and duties required by the unit specific to the scope of service.
- Implement procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice.
- Maintain up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to assure the integration of information for use by the healthcare team.
- Complete initial assessment upon patient admission and develop appropriate plan of care in accordance with unit standards based on patient and family needs.
- Implement plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures.
- Modify plan of care based upon continuous evaluation.
- Take responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents.
- Communicate with others directly and in private when necessary to resolve issues.
- Offer constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers and confer with colleagues to expand knowledge base.
- Identify own learning needs and take initiative to begin appropriate solution.
- Fulfill all requirements of departmental competencies.
Department Specific Job Functions:
- Assess orthopedic and medical/surgical patients every shift.
- Educate orthopedic and medical/surgical patients on wound care, proper mobility, self-care, medication management, care transition needs, and any additional patient-specific needs.
- Coordinate with physician and surgeon partners on the care of orthopedic and medical/surgical patients.
- Delegate and monitor interventions of the healthcare team staff.
- Set up orthopedic traction and manipulate surgical traction devices for mobility and wound care.
- Manage wound appliances such as wound vacs, drains, pouches, and other urological devices.
