• Teaching Hospital: Yes, Academic Medical Center
• Chest Pain Center
• Stroke Center

Unit Information:

• Beds: 24
• Minimum Years of Experience required: 2 years MST
• First-time travelers accepted: Yes, dependent on experience. Must have a strong background in MST

Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:

• General Medicine - DM, GI, Resp, Renal, Wounds/Dressing Changes, chest tubes, trachs, lab draws required

Patient Ratios:

• RN: 5-6:1
• CNA: 8:1

Required Licensure & Certifications:

• BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (Resource Team requirement)

Skills Required:

• Ability to provide direct and indirect patient care
• Strong interpersonal communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively
• Solid written and oral communication skills
• Ability to tolerate moderate to high stress levels
• Experience reading telemetry strips
• Chest tubes, traches, PIV starts, drain & tubes, PCA pumps
• Gtts management - Amiodarone (occasionally), Fentanyl PCA, Ketamine PCA, Dilaudid PCA, Heparin

Support within the Department:

• CNA: Duties - Provides basic nursing care to assigned patients and assist RN where needed
• Receptionist/HUC
• Charge nurse
• Phlebotomy
• Rapid Response Team
• RT 24/7
• Hospitalist 24/7
• Intensivist 24/7

Technology/Equipment:

• EMR: Epic
• IV Pump: Alaris
• Med dispensing: Omnicell

Orientation (facility and unit):

• NEO
• 2 days departmental
