Join a leading acute-care hospital as a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department (ER) in Louisville, KY. This is an exciting opportunity for experienced RNs to make a difference in a dynamic environment. The facility is focused on providing high-quality care to a diverse patient population, including all ages from infants to geriatrics.

Unit Information:

• Beds: 31 Emergency beds
• Average Patients/Day: 78

Minimum Years of Experience Required:

• RN: Minimum 2 years of ER experience, any trauma level.
• ED Techs: Minimum 2 years ER, paramedic, or EMT experience.

Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:

• Heart failure, GI bleeds/issues, hand injuries, NSTEMI/STEMIs, chest pain, VAD, behavioral health, CIWA, critical patients, sepsis, DKA, respiratory issues/failure, kidney issues/failure, liver issues/failure, post-transplant complications, traumas (MVA, GSW, falls, head injury - will stabilize and ship out).

Patient Ratios:

• RN: 1:4-5
• ED Tech: around 1:8, could be less or more depending on census.

Required License and Certifications:

• RN: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS
• Vistelar training specific to UofL

Skills Required:

• RN: IV starts, inserting foleys and NG tubes, neuro assessment (NIHSS), triage, codes, initiating/titrating pressors/cardiac drips/sedation/insulin, critical patients, hyper/hypothermia care, assisting with bedside procedures, moderate sedation for bedside procedures (versed/fentanyl/ketamine).
• ER Tech: splinting, phlebotomy (no IV starts), EKGs, vitals, I&Os, helping patients ambulate, helping transport patients, stocking rooms, placing nasal cannula.

Support Available:

• Charge nurse 24/7 - could occasionally take patient assignment.
• Management available 24/7 if needed.
• ER docs/midlevel providers 24/7.
• ER does all of phlebotomy.
• IV/VAT Team - VAST available but rarely used.
• RT 24/7 at hospital.
• Hospitalist 24/7.
• Intensivist 24/7.
• CT/X-ray in department.

Technology/Equipment:

• EMR: Cerner - preferred
• IV Pump: Plum
• Med dispensing: Omnicell
• Monitors: Phillips
• Unit specific equipment: U/S, VAD

Orientation:

• NEO
• 2 days of unit orientation.

Scheduling:

• Weekend rotation: RN: Every 3rd weekend.
• On call: none.
• Holiday Expectations: Assigned holidays based on needs. There is a holiday rotation; will not be required to work all holidays in contract.
• Approval of RTO: to go through manager.
• Schedule cycle: Manager will make schedule in 6 week increments and will receive about a month before schedule begins.

• Scrub Color: RN: Royal Blue.
• Parking: Free - Yes, with garage access.
• Unit Culture: In a rebuilding phase. Morale is low currently due to staffing needs. Working hard to stabilize and hoping that agency staff will contribute to the team.
