Join a leading acute-care hospital as an RN in the MedSurg/Telemetry unit. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a Level 1 Trauma Center that is also a teaching hospital, providing care for a diverse patient population with various acute and chronic conditions.

Unit Information:

• 30 beds with a patient census of 30
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience required
• First-time travelers are welcome

Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:

• Heart Failure, A-Fib, Acute Kidney Injury, Chronic Kidney Disease
• Respiratory Failure, COPD, Asthma, NSTEMI, Sepsis, Diabetes
• Post-op surgeries and post-cardiac procedures
• Co-morbidities common to med-surg population: diabetes, hypertension, infections, CHF, electrolyte imbalances

Patient Ratios:

• RN: 1:4-6
• LPN: 1:4-6
• CNA: 2-3 per shift

Required Licenses and Certifications:

• BLS required
• BCR (Basic Cardiac Rhythm) certification required
• ACLS preferred
• National certification in Medical-Surgical nursing preferred but not required

Skills Required:

• Trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, glucommander, insulin drips, heparin drips
• Strong clinical assessment and med-surg nursing skills for a Level 1 Trauma Hospital
• IV insertion and care, central line management
• Wound care and post-op monitoring
• Groin management, Foley insertion, care and maintenance
• Cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation
• Care coordination with interdisciplinary teams
• Discharge planning and patient education, particularly on renal and fluid management

Support within the Department:

• CNA duties include assisting with vital signs, glucose checks, bathing, feeding, ambulating patients, and hourly rounding
• Unit secretary available from 7A-11P; house-wide call secretary from 11P-7A
• Charge nurse may have patients
• Resource nurses available for discharge and support
• RT and Hospitalist available 24/7

Technology/Equipment:

• EMR: EPIC
• IV Pump: Alaris
• Med dispensing: Pyxis
• Monitors: Phillips
• Unit specific equipment includes VS3 vital sign monitors, Nova Glucose Stat Strips, and portable vital signs monitors

Orientation:

• 1 day orientation with educational modules
• 2 days departmental orientation

Scheduling:

• Weekend rotation: 5-6 weekend shifts out of 12 on a 6-week schedule
• No call required
• Holiday expectations: work one shift of each major holiday
• Shift times: 12-hour shifts from 7A-7P or 7P-7A
