Unit Information:

• Beds: 16 (Census full)
• Minimum Years of Experience required: 2 years of MedSurg experience
• First-time travelers accepted: Yes

Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:

• General Medicine – Geriatric related diagnoses, DM, GI, Resp, Renal, Wounds, Dressing Changes
• Patients aged 65+, functional, community dwellers
• Big on mobilization; bed turns over 3-4 times

Patient Ratios:

• RN: 5-6:1
• CNA: 8:1

Required Licensure & Certifications:

• BLS

Skills Required:

• Ability to provide direct and indirect patient care
• Strong interpersonal communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively
• Solid written and oral communication skills
• Ability to tolerate moderate to high stress levels
• Experience reading telemetry strips
• Strong IV skills and time management

Support within the Department:

• CNA: Provides basic nursing care to assigned patients and assists RN where needed
• Receptionist/HUC
• Charge nurse
• Phlebotomy
• Rapid Response Team
• RT 24/7 - available but not housed on the unit
• Telemetry monitoring/tech: Centralized Telemetry
• Educator
• OT/PT/ST

Technology/Equipment:

• EMR: Epic
• IV Pump: Alaris
• Med dispensing: Omnicell

Floating:

• Possible to other units: 8 Reynolds, 8 North, 9 North A/B, 9 Ardmore, 10 Ardmore, 8 North-B, 8 Ardmore

Orientation:

• NEO
• 2 days departmental
