- Weekend Coverage: Required
- Charting System: Epic (experience preferred; EMR/charting experience required)

- Patient Ratio Experience: Patient ratio experience noted: 4
- Pre-Approved Time Off: Up to two requests may be considered if submitted up front
Registered Nurse (RN) Requirements
- Experience: 2+ years of inpatient Pediatric Oncology RN experience required (or inpatient oncology with strong pediatric alignment)
- License: Active California RN license (required)
- Education: BSN required
- Certifications: AHA BLS and PALS (required)
- Vaccination: COVID-19 vaccination and booster required (medical/religious exemptions only)
- Travel Background: Prior travel assignment within the last 12 months required
Preferred Qualifications: APHON; chemotherapy certification (ONS/ONCC); Epic experience; prior teaching-hospital experience; pediatric oncology experience in a high-acuity inpatient setting.
Key Responsibilities (Pediatric Oncology Nursing)
- Provide compassionate, evidence-based inpatient nursing care to pediatric oncology patients and support families through complex treatment plans.
- Administer and monitor chemotherapy/biotherapy and supportive therapies per protocol; identify and manage adverse reactions and side effects.
- Manage central venous access devices (ports, PICCs, implanted lines), including dressing changes, blood draws, line care, and infusion pump management.
- Monitor for and respond to oncologic emergencies (e.g., sepsis, tumor lysis syndrome, anaphylaxis, hemorrhage, extravasation, spinal cord compression).
- Administer blood and blood products; monitor for transfusion reactions and escalate abnormal lab values promptly.
- Maintain neutropenic and isolation precautions; reinforce infection-prevention practices and PPE compliance.
- Educate patients and families and coordinate care with interdisciplinary partners (pharmacy, social services, PT/RT, IV team, radiology, interpretation services, rapid response, and more).
- Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately in Epic EMR and communicate changes in condition to the care team.
- Float as needed within scope and competency per policy (may include reassignment to another unit/department within the local region).
