Med/Surg RN Job Requirements (New York)
- License: Active New York State Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Experience: 1+ year of recent Medical-Surgical (Med/Surg) RN experience
- Certifications (required): BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (AHA or RQI)
- Strong patient assessment, clinical prioritization, and interdisciplinary communication skills
- Ability to provide age-appropriate, culturally responsive nursing care across adult, adolescent, and geriatric populations
Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive nursing assessments, develop individualized plans of care, and evaluate patient progress throughout the episode of care
- Provide direct bedside nursing care, including safe medication administration and evidence-based Med/Surg interventions
- Collaborate with physicians, case management, and the interdisciplinary healthcare team to set goals, adjust care plans, and coordinate care transitions and discharge planning
- Promote and protect patient safety, rights, and well-being while following infection prevention and control practices
- Deliver patient and family education to support self-care after discharge, including lifestyle changes, medication teaching, and recovery planning
- Delegate appropriately and support team effectiveness through clear communication and mutual respect
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and ongoing professional development
- Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation of care, assessments, and education provided
