Psychiatric RN opportunity in Lafayette, Indiana — full-time inpatient behavioral health nursing position (12-hour day shifts, 36 hrs/wk) at an acute behavioral health/addictions hospital. Job Details

- Location: Acute inpatient behavioral health/addictions hospital — Lafayette, IN (zip 47905) — Lafayette nursing jobs / Indiana behavioral health jobs
- Unit: Behavioral Health Division (48 beds)
- Shift: 12-hour days (7:00am – 7:30pm)
- Hours per Week: 36 (Full-time)
- Contract Duration: 13 weeks (Start: 4/20/2026 – End: 7/5/2026)
- Weekend Requirement: Every 3rd weekend (Saturday & Sunday)
- On-Site Position: Inpatient behavioral health nurse (on-site)
Job Requirements
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license valid for practice in Indiana
- CPR (BLS) and HWC (Healthcare Worker Certification) required
- Minimum 1 year of experience in behavioral health, psychiatric nursing, or mental health nursing
- Experience with crisis intervention, verbal de-escalation, active listening, and empathetic communication
- Accurate and thorough charting skills; experience with paper charting and electronic systems preferred
- Strong behavioral management, critical thinking, and teamwork skills; positive, empathetic, and professional bedside manner
- Dress code: Navy blue scrubs (hoodies not permitted)
Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, patient-centered care to adults with substance use disorders, mood disorders, psychotic disorders, PTSD, and anxiety disorders
- Rotate between two units within the hospital as needed to support inpatient behavioral health services
- Maintain accurate paper charting and enter orders using HCS; ensure timely and compliant documentation
- Administer medications using Pyxis and follow medication safety protocols
- Apply crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques to ensure patient and staff safety
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members (physicians, therapists, social workers) to deliver holistic behavioral health care
- Promote a therapeutic, recovery-focused environment and support individualized patient care plans
