Job Details – Travel Nursing Job (CVICU)
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,160 - $2,270
- Location: University Hospital, Madison, WI 53792 (Madison, WI travel nursing)
- Contract Length: 13 weeks (Travel RN contract)
- Hours: 36 hours per week
- Shift: Rotating Day/Night, 3x12-hour shifts (07:00-19:30 & 19:00-07:30), every other weekend, some holidays required
- Start Date: May 18, 2026
- Patient Population: Adults & Geriatrics
- Unit: Cardiothoracic Surgery ICU – 27 beds (daily census ~26)
Required Qualifications – CVICU / Cardiac ICU Nurse
- Minimum 2 years of acute care CVICU / Cardiac ICU experience within the last 3 years
- Travel nursing experience required (previous Travel RN assignments preferred)
- Wisconsin RN license or Compact RN license (must be in hand at submission)
- AHA BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Basic arrhythmia and telemetry interpretation experience required
- Experience with NextStage CVVH / CRRT machine required
- Trauma Level I experience preferred
- Epic electronic medical record (EMR) experience required
- Must pass a telemetry test prior to start (see Telemetry Test Criteria below)
- Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions only)
- Ability to float to other units as needed
Telemetry Test Criteria: 100% identification of lethal rhythms; no incorrect answers on 3rd degree heart block questions; passing score ? 80%. Two attempts allowed; failure may result in contract cancellation.
Primary Responsibilities – Cardiac ICU / CVICU Travel RN
- Deliver specialized critical care to post-op cardiothoracic surgery patients, heart and lung transplant recipients, and those on advanced circulatory and respiratory support (LVAD, ECMO, IABP, Impella, CRRT)
- Manage complex cardiac conditions: CABG, valve repair/replacement, aortic aneurysm/dissection, STEMI/NSTEMI, cardiogenic shock, advanced heart failure, and arrhythmia management
- Perform and assist with procedures including chest tube insertion/removal, arterial line and central line management, and post-cardiac surgery care
- Interpret telemetry and cardiac rhythms accurately and titrate vasoactive and inotropic drips
- Administer emergency medications and manage ventilated patients in a high-acuity ICU setting
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams: surgical teams, ICU physicians, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, PT/OT, radiology, and rapid response
- Adapt to changing patient acuity and assignments while maintaining compassionate, patient- and family-centered care
