Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN) – Travel Assignment in Springfield, Illinois (62702). 13-week position at a Magnet-recognized, Level I Trauma Center seeking experienced perioperative and surgical nurses.
Job Details
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,320 - $2,440
- Assignment Duration: 13 weeks (June 8, 2026 – September 7, 2026)
- Location: Springfield, IL (zip code 62702) — Springfield, Illinois travel nursing opportunity
- Facility: Magnet-recognized, Level I Trauma Center with 23 operating rooms
- Shift: 4x10-hour shifts/week (Day: 10:45am–9:15pm / Night: 12:45pm–11:15pm)
- Hours per Week: 40
- Weekend Requirement: 1 shift per month
- On-Call Requirement: 1 per week (rare)
- Scrub Color: Provided
- Charting: Cerner (electronic medical record experience preferred)
Job Requirements
- Minimum 3 years recent Operating Room RN experience in a Level I Trauma Center (perioperative/surgical nurse)
- Active Illinois RN license (in-hand or in application)
- BLS certification required (AHA or Red Cross only)
- CNOR certification preferred
- Travel nursing experience required
- Must live at least 50 miles from the facility (travel RN eligibility)
- Experience with Cerner charting preferred
- Required case experience:
- Bariatric: laparoscopic-assisted procedures
- General Surgery: appendectomy, cholecystectomy, colon resection, hernia repair, mastectomy, thyroidectomy, Whipple
- Neurology: cervical fusion, craniotomy, laminectomy/discectomy, lumbar fusion
- Orthopedic: arthroscopy, carpal tunnel release, fracture reduction
- Plastic Surgery: free flap / microvascular cases
- Transplant: organ donation support
- Urology: cystoscopy, nephrectomy, prostatectomy
- Trauma: amputations, GSW/stab wounds, MVC-related procedures
- Emergency management: code response, fire safety, latex allergy, malignant hyperthermia protocols
- Equipment experience: electrosurgical units, fiber optic light sources/cords, Hana tables
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive perioperative nursing care across multiple surgical specialties (excluding cardiovascular cases)
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including IV therapy, physical therapy, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, and surgical techs
- Float within the hospital or to affiliate hospitals as needed — flexible travel RN duties
- Participate in trauma and emergency management protocols and rapid response situations
- Administer blood products and monitor for transfusion reactions; follow infection control and radiation safety guidelines
- Ensure correct specimen handling and adherence to Universal Protocol (time-out, patient identification)
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation in Cerner and complete required orientation modules prior to start
