  • Contract Length: 18 weeks
  • Shift: 12-hour nights, 7:00 p.m. - 7:30 a.m.
  • Shifts Per Week: 3 shifts per week
  • Weekly Hours: 36 hours
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Holiday Requirement: One major holiday required
  • Location: Petersburg, Virginia
  • Setting: Busy Emergency Department with a broad patient population and high-acuity cases

RN Job Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice or compact license eligibility
  • Minimum of 1 year of RN experience required
  • Recent Emergency Department nursing or Critical Care experience strongly preferred
  • Large ED or trauma center experience strongly preferred
  • BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC required
  • CPI de-escalation training required
  • Ability to pass EKG exam at orientation
  • Epic EHR experience strongly preferred; proficiency within the last year preferred
  • Copy of nursing diploma required
  • Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with variable acuity and high patient volume
  • Must reside outside a 50-mile radius for travel nurse eligibility

Emergency Department RN Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care for patients across the lifespan in a busy Emergency Department
  • Perform initial and ongoing assessments, interpret findings, and develop individualized plans of care
  • Administer medications safely and in accordance with nursing standards and clinical protocols
  • Deliver care for non-urgent, urgent, and life-threatening conditions, including trauma, stroke alerts, STEMIs, and behavioral health presentations
  • Support triage, stabilization, resuscitation, and crisis intervention as needed
  • Collaborate closely with physicians, ED techs, unit leadership, and interdisciplinary team members
  • Maintain patient safety, infection control, and strong documentation standards
  • Respond calmly and effectively in high-pressure situations while prioritizing rapidly changing patient needs
  • Use emergency equipment and clinical technology efficiently to support safe, high-quality care
  • Contribute to a team culture focused on quality improvement, communication, and compassionate care
