• Setting: Emergency Department Observation Unit
• Unit Type: Short-term acute care, Level I Trauma environment
• Assignment Length: 13 weeks
• Shift Duration: 12-hour nights
• Shift Pattern: 3 x 12-hour night shifts per week
• Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,090 - $2,200
• Orientation: 36 hours
• Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:6 on days, nights, and weekends
• Schedule Notes: Every other weekend required; block scheduling may be accommodated
• Charting System: Epic

Job Requirements

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Connecticut, or eligibility to obtain prior to start
• 1.5 to 2 years of recent emergency nursing, ED, or similar acute care experience preferred
• Experience working with 1:5 to 1:6 patient ratios preferred
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and TNCC
• Additional certifications such as CPI, NIHSS, PALS, and ENPC are highly valued
• Prior experience with Epic charting preferred
• Ability to work nights, weekends, and flexible scheduling as needed
• Strong clinical judgment, communication skills, and teamwork mindset

Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, high-quality emergency nursing care to adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients in an observation setting
• Monitor and assess non-admitted patients requiring close observation-level care
• Administer medications and support treatment plans for a wide range of emergency and trauma-related conditions
• Manage IV therapy, dysrhythmias, oxygen support, and emergency interventions as indicated
• Support care for chest pain, stroke, trauma, psychiatric, and medically complex patients
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient status accurately in Epic
• Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapy, radiology, pharmacy, and other interdisciplinary partners
• Float within scope to meet department needs and maintain safe, efficient patient flow
