Registered Nurse Job Requirements

• Current Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license
• At least 1 year of recent adult medical-surgical nursing experience
• Current CPR/BLS certification
• Current ACLS certification
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification or demonstrated competency
• Experience caring for stroke patients strongly preferred
• Ability to work 12-hour night shifts, every other weekend, and every other holiday
• Strong patient assessment, prioritization, communication, and clinical judgment skills

Med/Surg Registered Nurse Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult medical-surgical patients during 12-hour night shifts
• Care for a diverse patient population, including stroke, post-operative, comfort-care, hospice, and medically complex patients
• Monitor and manage patients with altered mental status, COPD exacerbations, acute kidney injury, dialysis needs, and alcohol withdrawal
• Care for patients with heparin infusions, wound-care needs, amputations, drains, chest tubes, and feeding tubes
• Perform focused neurological assessments and recognize changes in patients with stroke-related conditions
• Administer medications and treatments safely while monitoring patient response
• Collaborate with providers and the interdisciplinary healthcare team to develop and evaluate individualized plans of care
• Accurately document assessments, interventions, patient responses, and care coordination activities
• Promote patient safety, dignity, comfort, and effective discharge planning
