Travel Nursing Job Details

• Schedule: 3 shifts per week; 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
• Scheduled Hours: 36 hours per week
• Weekend Rotation: Every other weekend
• Patient Population: Adults
• Unit: 32-bed cardiac stepdown unit
• Typical Patient Ratios: Approximately 4:1 on days and 5:1 on nights
• Call: Not required
• Charting System: Paragon
• Float Expectations: Float within scope as needed to support patient care
• Travel Eligibility: Candidates must reside outside the 50-mile local radius

Cardiac Stepdown Travel RN Requirements

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee or a valid compact-state license
• At least 2 years of recent Cardiac Stepdown, PCU, DOU, IMC, or progressive-care nursing experience
• Previous travel nursing experience required
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
• Strong experience caring for patients requiring cardiac telemetry and progressive cardiovascular monitoring
• Experience with cardiac drips, heparin protocols, dysrhythmia management, and interpretation of arterial blood gases
• Clinical proficiency with central lines, PICC lines, peripheral IVs, chest tubes, surgical drains, feeding tubes, and wound care
• Ability to manage post-MI, post-cardiac catheterization, post-angiogram, and pre- and post-cardiac surgery patients
• Comfort with oxygen therapy, BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, and rapid response or code team activation
• Strong communication, assessment, prioritization, and teamwork skills

Cardiac Stepdown RN Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult patients in a 32-bed cardiac stepdown unit
• Perform focused and comprehensive assessments, recognize changes in condition, and escalate concerns appropriately
• Monitor cardiac rhythms and telemetry, identify dysrhythmias, and initiate appropriate interventions
• Administer and monitor cardiac medications and infusions in accordance with established protocols
• Care for patients before and after cardiac catheterization, angiography, cardiac surgery, and hemodialysis
• Manage central lines, PICC lines, IV access, chest tubes, TR bands, feeding tubes, surgical drains, and wound vacs
• Administer blood products, procedural sedation, and other therapies within scope and policy
• Support patients requiring oxygen, high-flow nasal cannula, BiPAP/CPAP, and other non-invasive respiratory interventions
• Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, physical therapy, radiology, social services, and rapid response teams
• Educate patients and families while promoting safe, compassionate, and evidence-based care
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and contribute to a safe, efficient unit environment
