Medical-Surgical Travel Nurse Requirements
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas or a valid compact-state nursing license in hand at the time of submission
- At least 1 year of recent inpatient medical-surgical nursing experience
- Recent Epic experience within the past 6 months
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Comfort managing a 1:6 patient ratio in an inpatient medical-surgical setting
- Competency with isolation precautions and personal protective equipment, nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, and peripheral line care and management
- Ability to float to units of equal or lesser acuity as needed
- Travel nurses must reside more than 50 miles from the assignment location
Medical-Surgical RN Responsibilities
- Deliver safe, evidence-based nursing care to adult and geriatric medical-surgical patients during overnight shifts
- Complete focused nursing assessments, administer medications, monitor patient conditions, and evaluate responses to treatment
- Manage care for up to six patients while prioritizing clinical needs and maintaining accurate nursing documentation
- Use Epic to document assessments, interventions, care plans, and patient outcomes
- Provide peripheral line care and management, respiratory support within scope, and appropriate isolation precautions
- Collaborate with physical therapy, respiratory services, pharmacy, radiology, social services, phlebotomy, rapid response teams, and other interdisciplinary healthcare professionals
- Communicate changes in patient status promptly and contribute to discharge planning and patient education
- Maintain professional standards of Registered Nurse practice and promote a safe, respectful patient-care environment
