• End Date: February 15, 2027
• Schedule: 4 shifts per week, 10-hour day shifts
• Shift Hours: 6:45 a.m.–5:15 p.m.
• Hours per Week: 40
• Weekend Requirement: Approximately 1 weekend shift per month
• Call: Approximately 1 call shift per week as needed
• Operating Rooms: 23
• Patient Population: Adolescents, adults, and geriatrics
• Clinical Setting: Acute care hospital and Level I trauma environment
• Charting: Cerner experience preferred
• Floating: May be required within the nurse’s competency and to support organizational needs

Operating Room RN Job Requirements

• Minimum 2.5 years of recent Operating Room RN or perioperative nursing experience
• Previous travel nursing experience required; first-time travelers are not accepted for this assignment
• Active Illinois RN license in hand at the time of submission
• Current BLS certification from the AHA or American Red Cross
• CNOR certification preferred
• Level I trauma experience required
• Strong general OR and trauma experience, including scrub experience
• Demonstrated experience with general surgery, bariatric, neurologic, orthopedic, plastic, transplant, urologic, and trauma procedures
• Required case experience includes appendectomy, cholecystectomy, colon resection, hernia repair, laparoscopic procedures, mastectomy, thyroidectomy, Whipple procedures, craniotomy, spinal fusions, laminectomy/discectomy, fracture repairs, arthroscopy, free-flap microvascular procedures, organ donation, cystoscopy, nephrectomy, prostatectomy, amputations, and care involving multiple-trauma injuries
• Proficiency with electrosurgical units, fiber-optic lighting, and Hana tables
• Knowledge of blood product administration, infection prevention, radiation safety, specimen handling, urinary catheterization, and Universal Protocol/time-out procedures
• Ability to respond appropriately to codes, fire emergencies, latex allergies, and malignant hyperthermia events
• OR applicants must reside at least 50 miles from the assignment location

Perioperative Nursing Responsibilities

• Deliver safe, evidence-based perioperative nursing care for adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients
• Scrub and circulate for a wide variety of surgical procedures within demonstrated competencies
• Support all service lines except cardiovascular surgery in a high-acuity, Level I trauma environment
• Prepare operating rooms, equipment, instruments, supplies, and patients before, during, and after procedures
• Participate in general, bariatric, neurologic, orthopedic, plastic, transplant, urologic, and trauma cases
• Maintain strict infection-control, sterile-technique, specimen-labeling, radiation-safety, and surgical time-out standards
• Administer and monitor blood products according to policy and respond to urgent clinical changes
• Assist with emergency management, including code response, fire safety, latex allergy precautions, and malignant hyperthermia protocols
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia professionals, nursing colleagues, and interdisciplinary support teams to promote efficient surgical care
• Provide safe handoff communication and accurate documentation using Cerner when applicable
