PACU Registered Nurse Job Requirements

• Current, unrestricted Wyoming Registered Nurse (RN) license
• At least 1 year of Registered Nurse experience; 2 or more years in acute care, PACU, post-anesthesia, or surgical services is preferred
• Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications
• TNCC certification required within 6 months of hire, or as course availability permits
• Knowledge of perioperative nursing, post-anesthesia recovery, and procedural sedation principles
• Knowledge of aseptic technique and infection prevention practices
• Ability to assess and care for newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients
• Strong communication, organization, clinical judgment, patient education, and care coordination skills
• Ability to remain calm and effective in high-acuity or stressful situations
• National perioperative nursing certification is preferred

PACU Nurse Responsibilities

• Provide direct preoperative, postoperative, PACU, outpatient, and procedural sedation nursing care
• Perform focused assessments and reassessments, monitor patient condition, and evaluate clinical outcomes
• Monitor hemodynamic status, interpret cardiac rhythms, and respond using ACLS and PALS protocols as appropriate
• Prepare patients for examinations and procedures and assist providers during patient care
• Administer medications, IV fluids, and medication infusions safely based on patient age and clinical condition
• Maintain accurate documentation of patient history, assessments, vital signs, interventions, responses, and changes in condition
• Provide clear discharge education to patients and families and evaluate understanding before discharge
• Serve as a liaison among patients, families, providers, and members of the perioperative care team
• Maintain clean, stocked, and procedure-ready rooms and work areas
• Coordinate smooth patient transfers with other departments
• Support the orientation of new team members and learning opportunities for nursing students
• Participate in required education, department meetings, compliance activities, and ongoing professional development
