PACU Travel Nurse (RN) – Philadelphia, PA | 13-Week Contract

Join a high-acuity Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) as a travel Registered Nurse (RN) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This on-site nursing contract offers the opportunity to care for adult, pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patients in a Level I Trauma setting while expanding your critical care expertise across complex surgical and procedural services.

PACU Travel Nurse Job Details

• Healthcare Setting: High-acuity PACU in a Level I Trauma setting
• Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,070-$2,180
• Start Date: November 2, 2026
• Duration: 13 weeks
• Schedule: 3 shifts per week, totaling 36 hours
• Shift: 12-hour day shifts, 11:00 a.m.-11:30 p.m.
• Call Requirement: Rotating call schedule with two 8-hour weekday call shifts and one 12-hour weekend call shift within a six-week schedule
• Patient Assignment: Approximately 2 patients per nurse
• Patient Population: Pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics
• Floating: May float to designated procedural, GI, pain, or same-day recovery areas as needed
• Charting: Electronic health record experience required
• Orientation: 16 hours
• Scheduling Note: Block scheduling cannot be accommodated; time-off requests must be submitted at the time of application

PACU Registered Nurse Job Requirements

• Active Registered Nurse license eligible for practice in Pennsylvania
• At least 2 years of recent PACU or critical care nursing experience; 3 years is strongly preferred
• Level I Trauma experience required
• ICU background required; SICU, MICU, or CTICU experience preferred
• Previous travel nursing experience required; first-time travelers with strong qualifying clinical experience may be considered
• Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC certifications
• Demonstrated competency caring for both adult and pediatric patients in a post-anesthesia or critical care environment
• Proficiency with electronic charting and clinical documentation
• Ability to manage ventilated patients, arterial lines, central lines, vasoactive infusions, drains, and other high-acuity equipment
• Ability to complete required occupational health, background, fingerprinting, and credentialing processes before the assignment start date

PACU Travel Nurse Responsibilities

• Provide Phase I and Phase II recovery care to patients following surgical and interventional procedures
• Perform comprehensive pre-operative assessments and post-anesthesia evaluations
• Monitor airway, respiratory, cardiovascular, neurological, and hemodynamic status during recovery
• Care for patients requiring ventilator support, arterial line monitoring, Swan-Ganz monitoring, ventricular drains, chest tubes, continuous bladder irrigation, and vasoactive medication titration
• Recognize and respond to changes in patient condition, dysrhythmias, respiratory compromise, bleeding, pain, and other post-procedural complications
• Administer and evaluate the effects of anesthesia reversal agents, analgesics, sedatives, emergency medications, and other prescribed therapies
• Support recovery for patients undergoing neurosurgical, transplant, thoracic, vascular, cardiac catheterization, GI, ENT, ophthalmology, orthopedic, gynecologic, urologic, general, and trauma procedures
• Provide age-appropriate care to pediatric and adult patients, including patients requiring specialized airway and pain-management interventions
• Complete discharge education, medication reconciliation, follow-up communication, and transfer-of-care documentation
• Collaborate with anesthesia providers, surgeons, procedural teams, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, social services, and other interdisciplinary partners
• Maintain a safe, organized, and compassionate recovery environment while following infection prevention and patient-safety standards
