Pediatric Registered Nurse Job Requirements
- Completion of an approved professional nursing program
- Valid Oklahoma Registered Nurse (RN) license or multistate compact RN license
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association
- Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
- Epic electronic health record experience
- Zero to six months of related nursing experience accepted; pediatric or emergency nursing experience is a plus
- Working knowledge of disease-state management, clinical pathways, and the biopsychosocial model
- Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, organizational, and prioritization skills
- Ability to provide age-appropriate, culturally sensitive pediatric care and maintain accurate clinical documentation
Pediatric Emergency Nurse Responsibilities
- Assess pediatric patients and develop individualized plans of care using the nursing process
- Implement, monitor, and evaluate nursing interventions in accordance with unit policies and professional standards
- Prioritize care and perform nursing skills appropriate for the pediatric emergency population
- Recognize and respond appropriately to changing patient and unit conditions
- Document assessments, interventions, patient responses, and care outcomes accurately and concisely in the electronic medical record
- Provide patient and family education, discharge teaching, and appropriate referrals
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, nurses, providers, and other healthcare professionals
- Delegate appropriately and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to support quality patient outcomes
- Use clinical resources to address patients’ developmental, psychosocial, and cultural needs
- Participate in required education, in-service training, quality improvement activities, and variance reporting
