Join a high-acuity Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) as a travel nurse in Tacoma, Washington. This 13-week assignment offers experienced Registered Nurses the opportunity to provide critical care to premature and critically ill newborns while expanding their neonatal nursing expertise in a collaborative pediatric environment. NICU Travel Nursing Job Details
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,250–$2,370
- Location: Tacoma, Washington
- Specialty: Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
- Assignment Type: 13-week travel nursing contract
- Start Date: November 2, 2026
- Contract Duration: 13 weeks, ending January 30, 2027
- Schedule: 36 hours per week
- Shift: 12-hour nights, typically 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.
- Weekend Rotation: Every other weekend; occasional back-to-back weekends may occur
- Call: No on-call requirement
- Scheduling: Block scheduling may be available but is not guaranteed
- Charting System: Epic
NICU Registered Nurse Job Requirements
- At least 2 years of recent Registered Nurse experience in a Level III or Level IV NICU
- Active Washington State Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
- Current clinical competency in caring for premature and critically ill neonates
- Strong communication skills, adaptability, and a positive, team-focused attitude
- Travel nursing experience is strongly preferred; first-time travelers may be considered
NICU Travel Nurse Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive neonatal nursing care to premature infants, including neonates as young as 22 weeks gestation
- Care for patients with respiratory distress syndrome, neonatal abstinence syndrome, hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, and other complex neonatal conditions
- Manage respiratory support, including ventilators and NCPAP
- Perform and monitor care involving tracheostomies, G-tubes, NG/OG tubes, UACs, UVCs, and PICC lines
- Administer medications, develop and update individualized care plans, and evaluate patient progress
- Support high-risk deliveries and provide nursing care for surgical neonatal patients when needed
- Prepare infants and families for discharge, including parent education and coordination of care for discharge home
- Collaborate with providers, respiratory therapists, and the interdisciplinary healthcare team to promote safe, evidence-based patient outcomes
- Float to MedSurg or PICU for patients age one year or younger, or provide support as a helping-hands nurse, as needed
